Timeline • February 8 – Parent Information Night • February 8-10 Receive Informational Letter • Username and Password • Online Registration Instructions • Middle School Presentations to Students • Dakota Middle School – February 18 – 2:40 • Southwest Middle School – February 17 & 18 – 11:20 • West Middle School – February 17 & 18 – 8:05 • February 17 through February 25– Registration Assistance (Call 394-4025) • February 27 – Registration Window Closes • Late August – Schedules Complete • Schedules will not be accurate until late August

  6. Registration Process Step One: Administration, guidance counselors, and the registrar visit the middle schools and meet with the students. Registration video and materials can be accessed on the Stevens High School’s webpage.

  7. Registration Materials Step Two: All students receive registration materials • Course Listings Handbook • Frequently Asked Questions Sheet • Green Summary Sheet • Passwords and online scheduling instructions sent home (February 8-10)

  8. Online Registration Step Three: • Student Access: Students use their username and password to register for classes. This can be accomplished at home or school. • Student username and password will be mailed (February 8-10).

Registration Assistance • Call 394-4025 and ask for Marcia (Registrar) • Call 394-4025 to visit with a counselor or gifted education coordinator • Call 394-4051 to visit with an administrator • Registration Assistance at Stevens High School • February 17 through February 25 • Come to the Stevens High School’s Guidance Office 7:30-4:00 • Call one of the numbers listed above

  10. Graduation Requirements/Selecting Courses for 9th Grade Note the Requirements: • Required Courses • Elective Courses • Students must earn a minimum of 22 credits • Personal Learning Plan

  11. GRADE LEVEL CLASSIFICATION • FRESHMAN 0 - 4.5 credits • SOPHOMORE 5 - 10.5 credits • JUNIOR 11 - 15.5 credits • SENIOR 16 and above

Personal Learning Plan (PLP) • List of courses students plan to take • Four Year High School Academic Plan • Ongoing process (updated yearly) • PLP helps prepare for high school and post-secondary goals • 8th grade year students take interest inventory (Matchmaker) • 10th grade year students take an ability profiler assessment • 9th through 12th grade revisit PLP

  14. sdMylife.com • Prepare for ACT • Build a resume • Research post secondary education options • Find out about scholarship opportunities • View videos of South Dakotans employed in their chosen fields (show example) • sdMyLife is free to all students and parents. • Username and password available at student’s current school

  15. 9TH Grade Required Classes All incoming 9th graders will be registered by us for the following required classes: • English 9 • Physical Science 1, Physical Science 2 • Civics, World Geography • Algebra 1 *(Your middle school math teacher will provide us with a list of students who should take Algebra A or Formal Plane Geometry.)

  16. Elective Credits (3 credits) • Students choose at least 2 to 3 credits of elective classes. We encourage students to take 3 credits of electives. • Students take a reading class if they do not pass the reading test (required for high school graduation). • A list of elective classes available to 9th graders is provided on page 4 in the student’s green registration handout.

You should receive this on February 8-10) • Submit course requests online from home or school between February 17 and February 27 (Registration Window) • February 17 through February 25 personnel at Stevens High School will be available (7:30 am - 4:00 pm)for anyone with questions or needing Internet access • Follow directions in the letter

  27. Transition Components • 9th grade Orientation – Purpose is to prepare you for your 9th grade year • Late August – Pictures for ID and Locker Assignment • Late August – Open House • Meet the teacher/locate classrooms/class schedule • Meeting with all 9th grade students
