  2. Need to for the Session • Integration of NEPAD into the AU structures and processes • Coherent leadership, aligned of policy, complementarity of roles as per the mandate in implementation • Ensure a clear focus on results and outcomes

  3. The Background • Harmonization session was an outcome of the integration of NEPAD into the AU structures and processes • 1st session was held in 2009 • 2nd session was held in July 2011 • 3rd session was held in March 2012

Principles of Harmonization • There should be an alignment of institutional strategic plans with the overall AU goals and objectives; • Common goals and objectives inform the basis of joint plans, programmes and projects; • Parties must exhibit an appreciation of the dynamic relationship inherent in the AU system, that whilst we all working towards the same AU goals and objectives, we do so within our the different institutional mandates (the principle of similar but differentiated roles); • The exercise must lead to high level synergies, coherence and complimentarity in the implementation of continental programmes; and • The division of labour must be based on the respective mandates of institutions.
