*PRAYER OF CONFESSION(unison) Gracious God, we hate when we mess up. And yet we do it too often. Sometimes we yell at people we love, sometimes we withhold love from them when we are angry.
Please forgive us. Forgive us for not following your Word and your call to love and honor those around us. Please come into the broken places in our lives,
which are often places we have created, and bring healing. Strengthen us for the daily stresses of life which can lead us to make bad decisions.
Grant us the wholeness and peace which come only from you. (Silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Come, sisters and brothers, receive the forgiveness, wholeness, and peace of God and follow Jesus as he leads you. P: We claim God’s forgiveness, and will sing of God’s love for us. Thanks be to God!
CHOIR ANTHEM “Christians, We Have Met to Worship”
PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 1:1-3
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditateday and night.
They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all they do, they prosper.
SCRIPTURE READING: John 15:1-11
‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-grower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit.
You have already been cleansed by the word thatI have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless youabide in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branchand withers;
such branches are gathered, thrown in the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abid in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bearmuch fruit andbecome mydisciples.
As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
