  3. Sacramento • Opportunities: nutrition legislation • AB 627 (Brownley) • Basic nutrition standards for licensed child care • AB 95 (Torlakson) • Increases state supplement to school meals • AB 1057 (Beall) • Simplifies applying for and keeping food stamps

  4. Sacramento: You Too! • How can you play a role? • Get on the CFPA listserv for email alerts – and respond! • ENACT on April 29th • HAD on May 20th • Invite your Assemblymember and Senator to visit your program or community

  5. Washington, D.C. • $1.3 trillion deficit…but: • ARAA (Stimulus Package) • 13.6% increase in food stamp benefit levels • 2009 Appropriations • Medicaid share-of-cost improvements • FY 2010 Budget • $1 billion in new funding for CN Reauthorization

Washington, D.C. • Opportunities: nutrition legislation • Congress is considering CN and WIC changes as part of health care reform • Investments may provide benefits to newly poor (expanded eligibility) • Investments may provide funds to improve nutritional quality (incentives) • (Insert your priority here)….you have a role to play too!
