2. History The Australian Open is the youngest of all the Grand Slams and it started in 1905. This tournament has the record for the highest attendance at a Grand Slam event in 2018 edition of the Australian Open, where 743,667 people attended the tournament. Also, it is the first Grand Slam tournament to feature indoor play during wet weather or extreme heat. There are three main courts - the Rod Laver Arena, the Melbourne Arena and the Margaret Court Arena. Apart from that, they have courts 7 to 15 and even court 19 and 20. This tournament became open to all in 1969 - a year after the remaining 3 tournaments became open.

4. Records Women’s Men’s • Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have been the most successful players in the Australian Open. The Serbian star and the Swiss ace are both tied on six Australian Opens each. Federer has won the last one in 2018 and even Djokovic is on a list. So the battle is on to see who can reach number 7 first. • The youngest winner in the men's singles was Australian player Ken Rosewall - 18 years 2 months. • Rosewall bagged the crown in regard to the oldest players as well, aged 37 years and 2 months. However, if Roger Federer wins, he can overtake Rosewall. • On the women's side of the game, Serena Williams is the most successful player with 7 titles. This has again been set in the Open era. Overall, Williams is still far behind tennis legend Margaret Court. • The youngest winner on the women's side, it was Martina Hingis, a 16 years 4 months old. • On the women's side of the game, Thelma Long was the oldest winner at 35 years and 8 months.
