By Ellen Weber. Wood comes from trees. They use big chainsaws to cut down the trees. The people who cut down the trees are called lumberjacks. They load the logs on big trucks and take them away. The trucks take the logs to the lumber mill. We just learned a lot of words for WOOD.

  2. Wood comes from trees.

  3. They use big chainsaws to cut down the trees.

  4. The people who cut down the trees are called lumberjacks.

  5. They load the logson big trucks and take them away.

  7. We just learned a lot of words for WOOD. When a tree is cut down, and all the branches are taken off, all that is left is the trunk. We call that a log.

  8. When the logs are cut in big pieces, we call it lumber.

  9. The mill sends the lumber to people who want to make something from the wood. A person who makes things from wood as their job is called a carpenter.

  11. Many animals have “wood” in their names. A woodpecker pokes holes in wood to look for bugs to eat. A woodchuck likes to chew on wood.

  12. How do we know it is wood? We can see it with our We can paint wood any color, but if it’s not painted, wood is usually tan or brown with lines in it.
