Hybrid Courses - historyWhat will it look like . . .? • Fall, 2006: “School of the Future” discussion • Winter & Spring, 2007: Teacher talk and interviews, information meetings, research, proposals. • 2007-08: Pilots form, official course proposals, PLC work • 2008-present: courses running, continued support & expansion • 2009: Pilots at Kennedy High School, expansion into Phy Ed, AP US History

Hybrid Courses - challengesHow do we get there . . .? • Teacher’s are challenged to do different work instead of more work. • Teacher time - working outside the school day. • Technical Skills required by teacher and student • Independence can create lower lows and higher highs • Loosening controls can create admin, parents, community anxiety

  8. Hybrid Courses - administrationHow do we get there . . .? • Registration Guide Information • Student self-screening • Parent Sign-off forms • Driving forms • Class Standards forms • No freshmen allowed

  9. Hybrid Courses - a How-ToHow do we get there . . .? • Gather Support - a core group with a champion. • Create a Pilot - tightly controlled to maximize chance of success. Over-analyze and over-share the results. • Expand the Circle. Insert hybrids into other district structures where possible - curriculum cycle, credit recovery, GT, AP, PLCs, etc. • Formalize. Complete the policy work and communication necessary to make hybrids one of your normal school offerings.
