  2. Healthy Hairdresser • Since 2005 occupational health and safety regulations for hairdressers: policy rules • Not only skin protective measures, also physical measures • RI&E (inventory and evaluation of health risks)E (inventory and evaluation of health risks)

  3. Healthy Hairdresser • 2014: new policy rules “Arbocatalogus” (healthy work catalog) by ANKO and unions CNV Vakmensen and FNV Mooi • Allergenic stress • Physical stress • Psychosocial workload

  4. Skin Protective Measures Several activities: • General (washing etc) • Trimming and cutting • Permanent waves • Coloring hair • Bleaching

General Protective Measures • ‘Wet work’ max 30 minutes/hour without gloves • Max 4 hours a day use of gloves • Job rotation • No hand jewelery(rings) • Product preparation area for mixing cosmetic products (chemical corner) • Gloves that could cause allergies should be avoided (such as latex / powdered/ rubber accelerators)

  6. Trimming Protective Measures • Trimming equipment such as scissors shall not contain nickel

  7. Permanent Waves Protective Measures • Single-unit packages for permanent wave liquids • No GTG in permanent wave liquids • Use a strip system in which liquids can be mixed in sealed packages or use product preparation area • Wear gloves when prepare, neutralize and rinse the liquids and when removing rollers

  8. Coloring and Dyeing Protective Measures • Wear gloves when preparing, mixing, applying and rinsing hair dye and coloring rinses • Preferably use hair dye in a closed spray can system. If using a tube, contamination with dye on the exterior of the tube should be prevented

  9. Bleaching Protective Measures • Use non-powdering bleach agents or use aclosed mixing system • Wear gloves when mixing, applying and rinsing bleaching agents
