  3. Mormons • DEFINITION :They were the largest group of settlers to move to the Mexican Cession. • The Mormons prospered in Utah despite the harsh dessert climate. • The church was founded by Joseph Smith.

Past and present leaders • Joseph Smith • Was a farmer who grew up in upstate NY. • He was an energetic, popular, and HANDSOME man. • He said a man could have more than one wife. • Brigham Young • He was the new leader after Joseph Smith was murdered • He searched for a new home for the Mormons. • He founded their home, that later became Salt lake city, Utah.
