  1. Security Technology March 18, 2009

  2. Transportation Security Administration Mission: The Transportation Security Administration protects the Nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce. Vision: The Transportation Security Administration will continuously set the standard for excellence in transportation security through its people, processes, and technology.

  3. TSA Layered Security PUBLIC AREA – PASSENGER COMMUNICATION

  4. Passenger Engagement - Signage

  5. Passenger Engagement - Signage CHECKPOINT PROCESS – DIAMOND SELF SELECT

  6. Stand-Off Detection (SOD) SPO-7 SOD units use advanced Millimeter Wave technology to provide instant real-time explosive device detection at ranges up to 7 to 20 meters. Passive millimeter wave, remote metal & non-metal (indoor-only) detectors: • Completely passive; no radiation emitted • Non-imaging; no personal privacy issues • Difference detector between aim point/reference point • Visual Detection System • Threat window indications of differences • Operator assesses potential threats using system indicators • Benefits: • Remote real-time threat detection facilitates layered security • Safe stand-off detection allows more appropriate response • Rapid deployment capability with only a few hours of operator training • Covert surveillance capability • Operationally tested in maritime and mass transit venues SPO-20

  7. Mobile Capture Device

  8. Electronic Boarding Pass MILLER/JARED OnePass: PS4B03 Flight: CO 1722 Y Seq: 7 Date: October 31, 2007 Depart: Houston-Bush Intl – 9:20PM Arrive: Dallas-Ft. Worth – 10:33PM Board Time: 8:45PM Seat: 14A (Exit row seat) Gate: C-36 (Gate may change; check before departure)

  9. TSA Layered Security CHECKPOINT AREA – EXEMPT LIQUIDS SCREENING

  10. Property Screening Technologies Screening Equipment – SABRE 4000 Hand-held trace detector for explosives, chemical agents, toxic industrial chemicals or narcotics.

  11. Property Screening Technologies Screening Equipment – FIDO PaxPoint Trace Detector used to differentiate liquid explosives from common, benign liquids by analyzing vapors emitted from the bottle.

  12. Property Screening Technologies Screening Equipment – Liquid Explosive Test Strips Ph-indicator-type strips that detect particles of liquid explosives and liquid explosive components.

  13. Passenger Screening Technologies Screening Equipment – Whole Body Imager (WBI)

  14. Detection Capabilities Knives/basic weapons with metal w/o metal with metal with metal Explosives Guns without metal without metal Other contraband Drugs Media & Data Money Liquids/Gels ProVision MMW Metal Detectors Trace Portals Body Pat-down

  15. Checkpoint Screening Technologies TSA has a wide portfolio of security technology at its disposal. • Whole Body Imagers • Millimeter/Backscatter Technology that inspect passengers for concealed weapons (metal and non-metal) and explosives • Creates a 3-D image of the body showing items concealed under clothing • Image Displayed using a Privacy Filter • Advanced Technology • Multiple Projection X-rays • Automated Detection Algorithms • Size and Power Requirements support one-for-one swap for legacy TRX systems • Bottled Liquids Scanners • Detect Specific Chemical Vapors Emitted by Liquids • Detects Low Concentrations of Explosive Threats • Handheld, Portable Detector • Cast & Prosthesis Scanners • Backscatter Technology • Body part placed next to the device rather than inside • Radiation produced is less than 10 microRem per scan (below FDA limits) • Mobile Device • Next Generation Explosive Trace Detectors • Detects a wide range of explosivesSamples Gathered through Swab Media • Records Operational and Performance Data

  16. CHECKED BAGGAGE SCREENING TSA Layered Security

  17. Checked Baggage Screening Technologies Explosives Detection Systems (EDS) are similar to Computer Tomography (CT) machines used in the medical field.Through a sophisticated analysis of each checked bag, the EDS machines can quickly determine if a bag contains a potential threat.  CTX 9400 – GE/Invision • High throughput EDS specifically designed for integration into airline baggage handling systems. Throughput: ~500 bph L3 eX6600 – L3 Communications • EDS machine that primarily functions as a system which is fully integrated into the inline baggage handling systems. Throughput: ~500 bph CTX 5500 – GE/Invision • Higher throughput EDS that primarily functions as a stand alone lobby configuration and is capable of being integrated into baggage handling systems. Throughput: ~220 bph AN XLB – Analogic • Higher throughput EDS with increased flexibility in multiplexing of screener viewing stations and networking capability. Throughput: ~1100 bph* CT-80DR– Reveal • Smaller foot print/lower weight EDS that provides additional flexibility and is predominantly deployed in lobby installation configuration. Throughput: ~220 bph CTX 2500 – GE Invision • Compact EDS that primarily functions in a stand alone configuration, often used in lobby screening installations. Throughput: ~110 bph
