  3. The Red Scare was when people feared communism would take over. • “Reds” was a name they used to call communists. • Occurred during the Cold War. • People destroying the country were American communists and citizens assisting communists. About the Red Scare

  4. Many people were suspected of being communists. • Investigated the government, educational systems and entertainment industry. • Intellectuals were suspected. Accusations During the Red Scare

  5. McCarthyism was a second Red Scare. • Occurred during the 1940s and 1950s. • Joseph McCarty made an accusation that there were communists in the United States. McCarthyism

  6. People who were suspected were mostly writers and entertainers. • Consequences of accused communists. • Unable to continue working. • Got passports taken away. • Jailed. • The trials were publicized. • Political tensions were heigtened. Accusations During McCarthyism
