Background Information • Population 20,000 • Cumulative HIV Cases: 8 + 1 = 9 • One new case in 2008 • 3 living and under care • 4 died • 2 transferred out
Testing data • Average of 1500-1700 HIV tests per year • 2007– 5 false positive • 2008 – 22 reactive screening tests • 15 false positive • 3 left island • 1 refusing confirmatory test • 1 confirmed by Western blot • 2 indeterminate
Who is getting tested • Pregnant women 30% • Blood Donors 40% • STD/FP Clinics 15% • Targeted at risk Pops. 10% • Others 5%
QA Reviews • Initiated May 2008 • Review STI/HIV case reports • Medical Records Review on active cases • Follow up on reactive tests • Recommendations or program improvements
Recommended Changes • Due to shortage of Doctors and Nurses and Economic Challenges, we may be moving toward using clinical staff for Partner Services, QA, and CTR • Training is needed in these areas
Challenge • One young women who tests positive when pregnant • Indeterminate test results • Documentation of care • Confidentiality Issues • Appropriate Diagnosis
