  4. Agriculture is key to development • Those most at risk from food insecurity are often smallholder farmers - producers of food • 40% of the food grown is lost to pests and diseases • For every 1% reduction in losses we feed 25 million more people • The key to success in knowledge

  5. Our vision By 2015 five million more farmers will have access to the knowledge they need to feed their families and lift themselves out of poverty

Where are we now? • Over 147 Plantwise clinics in 11 countries • Pilot clinics in 4 more countries • Fully working prototype of a knowledge bank, containing: • Pest distribution maps • Diagnostic facility • Treatment support • Over 100,000 smallholder farmers and their families • 60 local partners • 7 international partners • $11 million initial funding from our donors DFID and SDC

  13. Our goal • $50 million over next four years • $5 million in next six months • 150+ new clinics • Fully active knowledge bank • 500,000+ smallholder farmers and their families
