Global Initiative • 250 members of the online coalition • 40 programs listed in the Global Directory • Smoke-free buildings by state (many states do not have counts yet): • Maine: Approx. 50,000 units & 13 housing authorities • Michigan: Tens of thousands of units (at least 25,000 units) & 23 housing authorities • Minnesota: Over 110 buildings (including Presbyterian Homes, Cerenity Homes, and many Twin City Christian Homes) & 9 housing authorities • Oregon: Over 150 buildings (many Guardian Management) • Utah: Over 456 buildings • Washington: Over 150 buildings (many Guardian Management)
Common Problem, Common Goal • We’ve all received calls from frustrated, often ill tenants looking for assistance in eliminating secondhand smoke exposure in their apartment units • Our goal is to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure in individual apartment units
Many Strategies for Accomplishing our Goal • Voluntary policies • Legislative policies • Tax incentives • Tenant advocacy • Many others
