God Is… • The beginning and end of our journey • The formless one taking on form in creation • Mystery • Transcendent – above, beyond, always more • Immanent – intimate, present, incarnated • Outpouring, extravagant, self spending from an inexhaustible source
Life is a journey we do not consciously choose • We begin the journey in the waters of our mother’s womb. • We are knit together; formed in mysterious ways • God travels with us and in us from the beginning whether we know it or not
We have freedom to be formed by many forces • We have freedom to journey in many directions • God invites us to journey into wholeness • To journey with God is to be spiritually formed
Jesus’ journey with God reveals the surrendered life of the Beloved • Spiritual Formation is all that forms us into the likeness of Christ • Jesus is the embodiment of God’s Shalom; the Shape of God’s wholeness in human form
The spiritually formed life is shaped by patterns of attention and love toward God • Jesus’ union and spiritual friendship with God was a holistic rhythm • Jesus life of compassionate action was fed by contemplative attention and spiritual practice
The journey is whole person and life long • The journey is both joyful and difficult • The journey is counter cultural • The journey is one of healing and transformation
Companion • One who accompanies another • A comrade • Waits on, tends to, or attends to another • Person you know well and regard with affection and trust • We need Companions on our spiritual journey
