  2. Purpose: To use addition to find the value of coins when added together. • Objectives: • To figure out how money is used in everyday life. • What each coins value is. • How to add coins together.

  3. Everyday use of coins: • At the grocery store • Turning on a light • Filling up mom and dad’s car with gas • Going to the movies • Buying new pencils • Does anyone have any examples?

  5. Quarter • This is the biggest coin in size and value! • It’s worth 25 cents • There are 4 quarters in a dollar

  6. Dime • This is the smallest coin! • It is worth 10 cents • There are 10 dimes in a dollar

  7. Nickel • This is a silver coin worth 5 cents! • There are 20 nickels in a dollar • How many nickels are there in quarter? Or a dime?

  8. Penny • This is the smallest valued coin! • It is worth 1 cent • There are 100 pennies in a dollar

  9. Let’s review Nickel – 5 cents Quarter – 25 cents Penny – 1 cent Dime - 10 cents

  11. To find the value of a coin… • Add them together! • For example, + = 50 cents 25 + 25 = 50
