Why now? • CTE is critical to ensuring that the U.S. and Nebraska lead in global competitiveness by: • Preparing students for H3 careers (High Demand, High Skill, High Wage) • Connecting with Nebraska’s economic initiatives • Aligning to today’s labor demands to prevent shortfalls in a prepared workforce • Meeting employer expectations for career readiness • Infusing entrepreneurship education as a way to grow Nebraska’s economy

Why CTE? Why now? • CTE is results-driven with a positive return on investment (ROI). In 2010-11… • 34% of Nebraska’s high school seniors were concentrators (taking 3 or more CTE courses in a program area). • CTE concentrators had a 99% graduation rate • 97% of CTE concentrators leaving secondary education were placed in postsecondary education or advanced training, in military service, or employment • 33% of CTE concentrators took Advanced Placement or Honors courses compared to just 26% of all high school seniors.
