  2. Aim of the Course Background Children may present with empyemas or develop pneumothoraces. It is then essential to be able to effectively place a chest drain. Children may present severely ill requiring a venous central line and delay of placement can jeopardise the resuscitation of these patients. Training approach Short lectures will be given followed by hands-on training through part-task trainers and simulation. Training will be delivered by consultants with extensive experience. Information on pain relief and sedatives will equally be given.The information will be in accordance with National Guidelines.
