  3. Introduction • Why have units do a self-assessment? • Outcome of self-assessment / JTE Goals • Monitor progress on Action Plans • Unit Commissioner Roles / Concerns

  4. Self-Assessment Meeting • How frequently? • Annually, as part of JTE/recharter process • When unit leadership changes • When Unit Commissioner changes • As needed when problems arise

  5. Self-Assessment Meeting • Who should participate? • Unit Leader • Unit Committee Chairman • Chartered Organization Representative • Unit Commissioner

  6. Meeting Preparation Each participant review individually: • Advancement • Membership and retention • Planned outdoor program and service projects • Leader training and effectiveness • Parental / Committee involvement • Annual unit budget • Appropriate youth role • Roundtable attendance • Participation in District / Council events

  7. Meeting Preparation • Unit Leader, Unit Committee Chairman, Chartered Organization Representative individually complete Self-Assessment forms PRIOR TO the meeting • Unit Commissioner reviews latest Unit Health Report, current year JTE performance goals PRIOR TO the meeting

  8. Meeting Agenda • Evaluate unit progress toward achieving JTE goals for current year • Review past year successes, coming year vision • Arrive at consensus self-assessment • Identify areas for improvement ACTION PLANS • Determine specific actions needed for improvement • Assign responsible persons for specific action items • Set JTE goals for coming year (bronze, silver, gold) • Set follow-up meetings to monitor progress

  9. After the Meeting • Self-Assessment, JTE performance goals SHARED WITH other Unit Leaders / Unit Committee: BUY-IN • UC reports outcome of Self-Assessment, J2E performance goals to DC • Monitor progress toward JTE at monthly Unit Committee meetings

  10. UC Monitoring / Reporting • Monitoring: • Monthly UC contact / visit with Unit Committee • Commissioner Touch Point Checklist • Reporting: • Record unit visit in UVTS • Update DC at Monthly Commissioner Staff meetings • Semi-Annual Unit Health Report to DC • Annual JTE performance goals to DC

  11. DC Monitoring / Reporting • Tracking Unit Health on a monthly basis • Action Plan development with UC, as required • Reporting: • Semi-Annual Unit Health Report to Council Commissioner • Annual JTE performance goals to Council Commissioner

  12. Roadblocks • What reasons do Units have for not doing the Self-Assessment and participating in the JTE performance recognition program? • How can we, as Commissioners, convince these Units to do the assessment and to participate in the JTE program?
