VOCALS-UK Comms/Data-flow/StorageQuick-look tools Grant Allen (grant.allen@manchester.ac.uk) VOCALS Planning Meeting, Manchester, 29th July 2008
Dornier Communications • Air-to-Air – Mission scientist to mission scientist (Vox) via pilot-to-pilot using guard frequency (VHF, short range). Plus Iridium (Sat coverage issue!) • Air-to-Ops – Vox via Iridium. Plus possible limited data transfer via additional Aventech Sat Modem – realtime flight tracks, aerosol info.
Data Flow (with a view to quick-look info) • Dornier 228– All data (except Eagle/Hawk) offloaded and backed up to a central hard-drive/server at OPS centre • BAe-146 – Core data uploaded to BADC (timescale/accessibility?) Is there a need to use a central shared drive/server? • US-Sharing Protocol – Nothing formal yet. Data exchange post-campaign.
Quick-looks - Satellite • PML are investigating potential derived NRT cloud products from MODIS (optical depth / CTH,CTP). MODIS RGB images and dust indices also provided via a secure project site for field use • MERIS Products – Aerosol σ, cloud σ, CTP, cloud albedo, cloud-type. Note limited overpasses • Potential SeaWifs and AVHRR products available
Quick-looks – Instrument data • Plots/Images/Flight tracks – Useful for informing mission planning / instrument characterisation / QA. • These could be hosted on the VOCALS-UK project website. • Notice board in OPS centre for interesting results
US Quick-look tools • The US have an extensive suite of Satellite data and a site for quick-look data. These will be linked through the VOCALS-UK project site in the field.
