NEXT UPGRADE • NAUTILUS sensitivity is presently bounded by thermal noise. An improvement in sensitivity is expected if temperature is lowered from 3K to 100mK • EXPLORER sensitivity is limited by electronic noise. A double SQUID amplifier is ready to be used in order to improve the apparatus sensitivity

NAUTILUS with a new amplifier • SQUID amplifiers 100 times better than present ones are becoming available • Implementing such a device on Nautilus cooled at 0.1 K would yield: Teff<50 K h ~ 5 10-20
