  1. Leveled Literacy Intervention L L I Reading Intervention

  2. What is LLI? LLI is a small group supplementary intervention designed for children who find reading and writing difficult. The goal of LLI is to bring the children to grade level achievement. The LLI reading intervention is based on the Fountas and Pinnell leveling system.

  3. Groups of three students meet daily for a 30 minute reading Intervention lesson. Boys and girls have the opportunity to read three books per lesson. Every other day students are administered a reading record as documentation of their progress.

  4. Students are also engaged in writing activities based on previously read books. Students use their writing books to create complete sentences about the book’s content.

  5. The phonics piece to the LLI lesson provides “hands on” activities for each student. Boys and girls use the Alphabet Linking Charts, magnetic letters, and word cards to help build the core vocabulary students are required to know.

  6. Each student has a colored take-home bag for their take-home book. A take-home book is a book each student has already read in their LLI lesson. This gives the students the opportunity to share their books with a grownup. Students return the bag and book to school the next day and are ready to get their next book.

  7. The Enrichment/Intervention teachers have found Leveled Literacy Intervention to be a successful tool in developing successful readers. Early intervention will get students on track so they can benefit fully from classroom instruction. That is certainly our goal in using LLI.
