  1. It began in 1976-1977 . . . • Wisconsin started the training and certification of applicators desiring to use restricted-use pesticides • Back then, we used the EPA training manual, Applying Pesticides Correctly

  2. Then in 1983 . . . • Wisconsin created its own training manual, specific to Wisconsin’s agriculture and concerns • This ‘first edition’ then became . . .

  3. . . . the second edition in 1988

  4. . . . the third edition in 1993

  5. . . . the fourth edition in 1998

  6. . . . the fifth edition in 2003

  7. . . . and the sixth edition in 2008!

  8. Learning Objectives • Each chapter begins with a set of Learning Objectives • These objectives help you focus on what you should learn from each chapter

  9. Learning Objectives • Some learning objectives are listed as, Know the Law • These learning objectives show you which ones are legal obligations or requirements

  10. Learning Objectives Worksheet • At the end of each chapter is a Learning Objectives Worksheet • These worksheets help test your knowledge to determine whether you understand the learning objectives

  11. Why are Learning Objectives Important? • All questions on the exam will pertain directly to these learning objectives • Exam questions are not limited solely to today’s presentations

  12. Tips on Passing the Exam • Did you read the yellow insert, and Appendix G?

  13. Did You Know? • Text in gray boxes is not ‘testable’ material! • Neither are the appendices! • Although this information is important, it is not considered essential for certification purposes

  14. The 6th Edition Advantage • More gray boxes and appendices resulted in 20% less ‘testable’ material over the prior edition! • This edition concentrates on what an applicator of pesticides needs to know

  15. Training Registration Form • Do not remove this form now! But . . . • Do complete it, for it will be collected just prior to the exam

  16. Positive Identification • You’ll need your driver’s license, WI identification card, or other official photo card for positive identification

  17. Social Security Number • You’ll also need your Social Security Number • You won’t need your actual card, just your number

  18. Certification Exam • Exam contains 70, multiple-choice questions • There is only one correct answer per question • You may use your training manual as a reference to help you during your exam • You have 2 hours to complete the exam • You need at least a 50% passing score

  19. Application / Answer Sheet • Record the number from your Answer Sheet • Later, you can use this number to find out your exam score

  20. Get Your Exam Score • With your Answer Sheet number in hand, you may either call the Pesticide Applicator Certification System (PACS), or go online, to find out your exam score • (608) 224-4560 • datcp.state.wi.us (type PACS in the search bar)

  21. Get Your Exam Score • Or, if you are recertifying, you can use your existing certification number, rather than the Answer Sheet number, to check your exam score • (608) 224-4560 • datcp.state.wi.us (type PACS in the search bar)

  22. If you pass the exam . . . • WDATCP will issue you a certification card • Certification is valid for 5 years • You should get your card within 2 weeks of taking your exam. If not, call WDATCP at (608) 224-4548

  23. If you fail an exam . . . • WDATCP will inform you that you’ll need to retake the exam before certification can be granted 
