What do they look for ? • Subject knowledge in the relevant field • General Knowledge • Past employment history • Nature of the job held • Personal history • Attitude / Composure • Situation handling skills • Overall Personality
Dress Code – why is it important? • First Impression • Gives you confidence • Hygiene Factor • Shows respect to the interviewer DOs • Carry a handkerchief • Wear polished shoes/clean footwear • Be clean shaven • Have your hair well groomed • Carry a neat folder • Have CVs enough numbers
DON’Ts • Flashy / Colourful clothes / Ties • Wear loose tie • Too much oil in your hair
Inside…. How to enter the room ? • Gentle knock at the door – Excuse yourself • Have a gentle walk, Hold the files firmly • Walk with your back straight • Keep standing till you are asked to take a seat If not asked – seek permission If asked – say ‘Thank you Sir/Mam’ • Avoid making noise by pulling chair • Sit with your straight back • Leave the files on the table • Never lean forward • Keep your legs firm on the ground
Have a proper eye contact with all the interviewers • A smile in the face really helps • Exude confidence – through loud voice, firm handshake • Show respect/humility at all times While leaving the room… • Smile & look at all the interviewers in the eye – Thank them • Convey the message that you had a pleasant experience through your nod and gesture • Never leave the hall in a hurry
How to face FAQs ? Tell us something about yourself… • This is to put you at ease • Take it as an opportunity to settle down • Never talk much about your family history • Talk about your education, hobbies, strengths & weaknesses, special achievements, why you are interested in the job While answering… • Do not bluff I am sorry Sir, I don’t know as I have not had much exposure on it I am sorry Sir, my knowledge is limited
Do not use jargons/technical terms HRs may not be comfortable with.. • Be clear with your communication – Never try to beat around the bush • Avoid paraphrasing • Never get into arguments with the interviewers Sorry Sir, my info may be wrong..let me have a check on my source of info • Use examples if possible • Never lose your calm • Strengths – this should affirm why should they offer this job to you • Weaknesses – Measures taken up to overcome
Refresh your basics, Be thorough with fundas • Listen the question carefully • Have a proper eye contact with the person who is asking question • While listening, have a gentle nod • Never give any exclamatory expression on your face • While answering, look at all the interviewers • If you have more than one questions, take the question one by one • Don’t get irritated/aggressive, give contrary points of view or give long winded explanations to cover your mistakes
Why do you switch? • Talk about career growth/advancement/prospect • Don’t talk ill about your present employer • Never mention salary as the major criteria • Have plausible reasons for your job hopping • Frequent job hopping – not well received
Stress Interview….Why ? • To judge you on tact, cool temper, courage, self command or control • Whether you can take logical decisions under demanding circumstances Stress situations occur when the interviewer • Bombards you with nonsense questions • Cuts your answer repeatedly • Expresses doubts on your calibre/integrity • Accuses you of bluffing • Looks disinterested • Shouts at you • Two/three asking questions at the same time
DOs • Maintain your cool • Establish and maintain eye contact • Exude confidence through your body language • Try to answer one question at a time • If interviewer doesn’t show any emotion, don’t be hassled by that – just concentrate on the content of your answers • Interviewers may oppose your stand – be ready to take a stand and hold onto it – be convinced about it. Say ‘Sorry! We have a difference of opinion but I firmly believe in what I have said’ • Maintain a smile on your face
A little bit of humour at times helps • Never be sarcastic DON’Ts • Show your anger/get agitated under any circumstances • Don’t show signs of nervousness – no eye contact, mumbling, clasping hands, playing with table weights, pins… Salary Expected… • Negotiable – too desperate • According to the industry standards
