Progress to date: 2002-2010 • Application for site for a Gungahlin Catholic secondary college: 2002 • Site identified in the area now known as Throsby: 2004 • Catholic Education Commission approval to proceed with development of a secondary campus in Gungahlin: March 2010 • Discussion with ACTPLA regarding site/s: May 2010 • Application for in –principle Registration of the new campus: August 2010 • Community Meeting: November 2010

Next Steps • Architects are continuing to work with consultants and CEO facilities and education staff • Key staff of the Economic Development Directorate are continuing to work closely with CEO • Minister Barr has written to me stating that `the Government will continue to do everything it can to support your proposal to open in 2013’ • The building of the secondary campus building will run behind schedule because of the EPBC:
Next Steps continued • Coincidental with Throsby planning, the enrolments at Mother Teresa, Harrison have changed dramatically necessitating a new building project earlier than we had anticipated • CEO will build facilities at Harrison to house the expected 180 students in Year 7, 2013. These facilities will accommodate the expanded primary classes from 2014 • Years 7 and 8 will be housed in the newly built secondary campus in February 2014
Concept Design “Catholic - sacred, prayerful and sacramental” Design elements enhance the focus of our Catholic tradition, giving expression to our historical and modern spirituality. “Learning anywhere and everywhere” Education and learning is a social activity which can occur in all places of the College building and its surround.
Concept Design “Quality Education: innovative and future oriented” The educational spaces are constructed to reflect current pedagogical trends and the needs of students in the 21 century – versatile and adaptive. “Education is relational and schools belong to a community” Building design that respects and supports relationships, promotes inclusivity and focuses on the student as learner and member of a broader community.
Concept Design “Future proof” Learning spaces are flexible enough to stand the test of time and be editable to meet the learning needs of the future. “Facilities are linked to learning” Where children learn matters – facilities not only enhance their learning, but contributes to their learning - a physical environment that engenders delight and pride lifts the human spirit.
