Achievements for the first term of the Virtual School • Educational Lead in post since September • Data Improvements • Personal Education Plan revised and improved • Quality Assurance processes currently being developed • Outcome from the recent Ofsted inspection of Safeguarding and Looked After Children’s Services

  6. 1 What the Ofsted report said about the quality of work with schools.. • The impact of service on enabling looked after children and young people to enjoy and achieve is good • The role of the Virtual School is highly valued by schools • Schools value: the quality of partnership working, the timeliness of interventions and the challenge and support provided to them and CLA • Advisory Teachers effective in supporting schools to track progress and meet needs • Effective deployment of Education Support Workers in schools

  7. 2 What Ofsted said about the benefit to children and young people…… • 91% of CLA surveyed said they get appropriate help and support to succeed • Robust support for children out of county • Educational attainment has continued to improve – with outcomes supported by one to one tuition • PEA is used to increasingly good effect to help with education and personal development

  8. 3 What Ofsted said about future development…… • That we recognise the need that to improve services and outcomes for these children • The Virtual School is now in the correct portfolio - SSE • Significant improvement in participation in ETE • Effective academic support for care leavers in higher education by designated worker • Strong culture of celebrating the achievements of CLA

  9. Key Priorities for Spring 2011 • Launch and embed the New PEP • Share access to the new Virtual School Data Base • Improve focus on achievement • Develop the role of Designated Teachers
