Power Generation. A basic Electric Generator. Something (steam, water, wind) spins the turbine which makes the rotor (which is made of a magnet) spin. The rotor spins inside the stator (made of copper wire). This pulls electrons and creates current electricity which travels through the wires.

A basic Electric Generator • Something (steam, water, wind) spins the turbine which makes the rotor (which is made of a magnet) spin. • The rotor spins inside the stator (made of copper wire). This pulls electrons and creates current electricity which travels through the wires.
Major Forms of generation • It take a lot of energy to spin the turbines. • Nuclear/fossil fuel – heat from reactions is used to make steam to spin the turbine • Hydroelectric – uses falling water • Wind – uses wind • Tidal – uses the moving tides • Geothermal – uses the heat trapped underground to make steam • Solar – uses photovoltaic cells to convert to electrical energy
