  3. Active Ageing • What is Active Ageing? – “Living in an environment where growing older doesn’t mean being dependent on others” • What do we need to enable Active Ageing to be a reality for everyone? • Address issues, develop opportunities

  4. Health • Lifestyles and impact of health conditions on daily life • Mental Health & Dementia • People need tools to take care of their own health e.g.Telehealth developments • Isolation and Loneliness

  5. Campaign To end Loneliness • Started 2010 • Founder Partners • AGE UK Oxfordshire, Counsel & Care, Independent Age, and WRVS.   6. Social Care/Support Services • Dilnot Commission and Social Care White Paper • Variable costs and quality + Dignity issue • “Social care should not be viewed in isolation” - - Lack of joined up support provision (MPs Health Select Committee Feb 2012)

  7. Other Issues • Housing • maintenance,downsizing,lifetime homes, sheltered housing etc • Income & Employment • Poverty. 2009/10 16% pensioners in poverty. Two thirds woment • Transport e.g. rural isolation & bus passes

  8. Mindset Change Needed • It’s about all of us • “Grey is the new green” • One size won’t fit all – different groups of older people • Less focus on old age as a problem – highlight opportunities

  9. Opportunities • Older people an under acknowledged asset • Economic/tax contribution – many still working • Grey pound investment • Volunteering/skills to pass on/experience etc

  10. Involvement Of Older People Is Key • “Nothing for us without us” • Particularly in strategy/policy and service design • Should be holistic – no silos • Don’t assume – ask i.e. consult • Appropriate access to information

  11. Age Action Alliance • Led by AGE UK and Dept for Work and Pensions. Partnership of organisations from civil society, public and private sectors – e.g. Boots/Microsoft/Councils/Police • Informed and driven by older people. • Aim to improve older people’s lives, create neighbourhoods where older people are secure, valued and able to make a contribution to local communities and wider society • 7 subgroups to develop practical activity. • 5050vision on Loneliness and Isolation one.
