Author • Biography • Gabriel García Márquez was born in 1928 in the small town of Aracataca, situated in a tropical region of northern Colombia, between the mountains and the Caribbean Sea. • He became a journalist, and since then he has mostly lived abroad - in Paris, New York, Barcelona and Mexico. • He won the Nobel Prize for his novels and short stories in 1982. • Most famous works: One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967) and Love in the Time of Cholera (1985).

The bacteria releases a toxin that causes increased release of water in the intestines, which produces severe diarrhea. • Cholera occurs in places with poor sanitation, crowding, war, and famine. • Common locations: Africa, India Mexico South and Central America • People get the infection by ingesting contaminated food or water. • Risk factors include: • Exposure to contaminated or untreated drinking water • Living in or traveling to areas where there is cholera

The Antilles are divided into two major groups: the "Greater Antilles" to the north and west, including the larger islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and Puerto Rico. • The smaller "Lesser Antilles" on the southeast—comprising the northerly Leeward Islands, the southeasterly Windward Islands, and the Leeward Antilles just north of Venezuela.
