    1. Wedding Gowns from 1910-2000 By: Angela Kerkvliet

    2. 1910 Wedding Gown Semi sheer cotton/linen dress full of cut work with grape embroidery.

    3. 1920 Wedding Gown Prohibition caused “flappers” to emerge. Which are women with bobbed hair and short dresses. The flapper inspiration must have had an impact on this tea length, satin wedding gown. Headpieces in the 20’s became very elaborate and elegant.

    4. 1930 Wedding Gown Long, sleek, elegant dresses were the style of the 30’s. For the first time they introduced a detachable train so that the gown could be used as an evening gown after the wedding.

    5. 1940 Wedding Gown Clothing companies were rationing silk for parachutes and cloth for bags for the war so dress companies introduced rayon for wedding gowns. It is like an “artificial silk.” Also illusion netting was popular because it made the heavy gown appear to be floating.

    6. 1950 Wedding Gown After the war was over there was no need to ration any fabric so the dresses got fuller and fuller. The style was an hour glass figure. Lots of lace was apparent in many 50’s wedding gowns.

    7. 1960 Wedding Gown Jacqueline Kennedy sleek style and fitting gowns influenced the 60’s bridal gowns. The first sleeveless gown was introduced. The fashion motto in dresses was less is more.

    8. 1970 Wedding Gown A very popular characteristic of the 70’s dresses was the “Camelot sleeve.” Nylon was a new material that was used on the underskirt.

    9. 1980 Wedding Gown Dresses were softly romantic with lace and silk. A big influence on dresses was the one that princess Diana wore in 1981 when she married prince Charles.

    10. 1990 Wedding Gown A Pricilla of Boston gown made with a double layer organza with overlay of lace. Satin rosettes cover the chest of the full a- line dress.

    11. 2000 Wedding Gown A Satin A-line dress with a pulled waist and flutter on the side. Along with the elegant white gloves and veil.
