Biography information • He was born on April 29th 1899 in Washington D.C.. • His real name is Edward Kennedy Ellington, but he got the name Duke because of his neat clothes and charming manner. • He had more than 2000 compositions that helped to make jazz “America’s classical music’’
More Information About Duke Ellington • He started piano at age 7. • He made his first professional appearance as a jazz pianist in the year 1916. • By the year 1918 he had formed a band. • He attended Armstrong High School. • His favorite subjects in school were drawing and panting. • He also wrote jazz works of complex orchestration and ambitious scope to concert presentation.
More Info • He was recognized in his lifetime as one of the most important composers the U.S. has yet produced. • Duke Ellington died on May 24th 1974 in New York City from lung cancer. • Jazz music is still listened to today, it also lead to new types of music.
