E-Learning Data Elements: Phase 2…. John Opper Executive Director February 16, 2007
Our Story So Far… • 5 Conference Calls • Face to face discussion at the last meeting • Reviewed the existing data elements • Agreed to collect campus level elements • Reviewed “draft ideas” at July Meeting • Committee feedback on straw proposal
Element 1 • Online/Virtual - 100% online distribution of course • HA (Hybrid Asynchronous) A certain percentage of the course material is delivered via electronic means asynchrohously and a certain percentage of the course is conducted face to face • HS (Hybrid Synchronous) A certain percentage of the course material is delivered via electronic means synchrohously and a certain percentage of the course is conducted face to face
Element 1 - (Cont.) • HA (Hybrid Mixed Mode) A certain percentage of the course material is delivered via electronic means using a combination of asynchronous and synchronous means and a certain percentage of the course is conducted face to face • WE (Web Enhanced) - 100% face to face instruction utilizing some form of technology for course material distribution • Traditional - 100% face to face instruction
Element 1 - Comments • The “H” in hybrid indicates some class seat time is required so there is no need to add any designation into the second element • When coding in “traditional” for element one, dta entry personnel would not have a need to code anything for element
Element 2 - Technologies • M Materials - Primarily print-based materials for check-out or mail-out which may be packaged with other materials including CD-ROM, DVD, and video tapes or telecourses not broadcast. Correspondence courses would fall into this category. • B Broadcast - Course delivered by open broadcast (such as PBS), satellite, cable TV, ITFS, microwave, Radio that is synchronous or live. Transmission is one-way, although it could be interactive via phone or web/email access. • C Conferencing, Compressed Video, Audio, ITV - Two-way, audio and video, synchronous, interactive between two or more locations. • M Mobile Devices – Can include PDAs, MP3 players, digital video players, handheld gaming units or other “personal” or mobile devices. • W Web-based or Internet-based Courses - Can include Web-TV, video streaming on the computer, or any other technology heretofore not yet thought of. • N No technology employed
Next Steps • Revisions – Phase 3? • Recommend elements forward for consideration.
