Introducing a new fee structure and registration guidelines for ice hockey officials. Available at Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, with the option for tenured status for Levels 3 and 4. Requirements and guidelines for each level are outlined.

  1. OFFICIATING REGISTRATION PROGRAM RECOGNIZING COMPETENCY AND COMMITMENT

  2. There will be a two tiered fee structure for on-ice officials as follows: • - LEVEL 1 - $45.00 • - LEVELS 2, 3 AND 4 - $90.00 • The ‘Affiliate Level’ (non-skating)registration fee will be $30.00 NEW FEE STRUCTURE

  3. Any official is allowed to remain at Level 1 for two (2) seasons or may progress to Level 2 after one year at Level 1. Level 1 officials may, if they wish, register at Level 1 until they reach age 16 as of 8/1 of the current calendar year. • Once an official has obtained Level 2 status, they may remain at Level 2 or may advance to Level 3 after one year.   4. Submit a USA Hockey officiating application • Submit the appropriate registration fee for the level applied for • Pass an Affiliate or USAH background screening (every 2 years at or after age 18) LEVEL 1 REQUIREMENTS

  5. Pass the SafeSport Training course (every 2 years at or after age 18) • Pass an open book L1 specific rules exam (35/50) NEW • Complete online required and elective seminar modules for L1 applicants • Attend a L1 classroom seminar session LEVEL 1 REQUIREMENTS

  6. Submit a USA Hockey officiating application • Submit the appropriate registration fee for the level applied for • Pass an Affiliate or USAH background screening (every 2 years at or after age 18) • Pass the SafeSport Training course (every 2 years at or after age 18) LEVEL 2 REQUIREMENTS

  7. Pass an open book L2 specific rules exam (40/50) NEW • Pass a L2 specific closed book rules exam (24/30) NEW • Complete online required and elective seminar modules for L2 applicants • Attend a L2 classroom seminar session LEVEL 2 REQUIREMENTS

  8. Submit a USA Hockey officiating application • Submit the appropriate registration fee for the level applied for • Pass an Affiliate or USAH background screening (every 2 years at or after age 18) • Pass the SafeSport Training course (every 2 years at or after age 18) LEVEL 3 & 4 REQUIREMENTS

  9. Pass an open book L3 or L4 specific rules exam {L3 & L4 - 45/50} NEW • Pass a L3 or L4 specific closed book rules exam {L3 & L4 - 40/50} NEW • Complete online required and elective seminar modules for L3 or L4 applicants • Attend a L3 or L4 classroom seminar session LEVEL 3 or 4 REQUIREMENTS

  10. Returning L3 & L4 officials will have the option to ‘test out’ of the elective portion of their online seminar curriculum starting with the 2018-19 registration season. NEW NEW LEVEL 3 & 4 OPTION

In an effort to recognize those L3 & L4 officials who have demonstrated a commitment and dedication to developing their officiating skills both on and off the ice through consecutive years of registration and upward mobility, a new status level has been created. That status level is ‘Tenured’ status. NEW REGISTRATION STATUS LEVEL

  12. Any official applying for ‘Tenured’ status must first comply with the previously stated requirements for L3 or L4 applicants. LEVEL 3 or L4 TENURED STATUS GUIDELINES

They must also be complete at L3 or L 4 for the previous three (3) consecutive registration years to be eligible to apply for ‘Tenured Status’.Additionally, their ‘Tenured Status’ (Level 3 or 4) will be determined by the completed level they had achieved the registration year prior to applying for ‘Tenured Status’. LEVEL 3 or L4 TENURED STATUS GUIDELINES

Maintain continuous registration with USA Hockey at the L3 or L4 Tenured status level • Must complete all required video modules as established for each new registration year • Submit a USA Officiating application for L3 or L4 Tenured status each new registration year • Submit the appropriate registration fee each new registration year LEVEL 3 or L4 ‘TENURED’ REQUIREMENTS

  15. Pass an open book L3 or L4 specific online rules exam. • Pass an Affiliate or USAH background screening (every 2 years at or after age 18) • Pass the SafeSport Training course (every 2 years at or after age 18) LEVEL 3 or L4 ‘TENURED REQUIREMENTS

  16. Complete any local Affiliate/Officiating requirements • Attend a one-time nationally sponsored ‘National Symposium’ eventNEW LEVEL 3 or L4 ‘TENURED’ REQUIREMENTS

  17. An Official who has achieved L3 ‘Tenured Status’ may advance to L4 ‘Tenured Status’ by successfully completing all of the requirements for Level 4 officials for one (1) registration year. LEVEL 4 ‘TENURED’ STATUS GUIDELINE
