Review of Algebraic Expressions Variable - the letter that is used to represent an unknown value ex. x, xy, cd, y Coefficient - the number that the variable is multiplied with. (usually written infront of the variable) ex. term 3xy ⇒3, term x2⇒1, term -7d⇒-7 Like Terms - terms that have the same variable raised to the same exponent.
Expand and Simplify a. 3(5x + 6y - 2) b. 4(x+y) -3(x + y) c. 3x(4y - 2x) + 4y(x - y) Remember to: - Multiply the term in front of the bracket with EVERY term in the bracket. - Collect like terms together
Review Solving Equations a. 5 + 7y = 2y + 9 b. 2(n - 8)=-4(2n - 1) c. 3(2k - 5) - k = 4 - (3k + 7)
Steps to Solving Equations 1. Expand terms to remove all brackets. 2. Use the LCD to eliminate all fractions. 3. Move all like terms on to the same side of the equal sign. 4. Collect like terms together 5. Solve for the variable
