A Hospital is any institution duly licensed, certified, and operated as a Hospital. A hospital is not a convalescent facility, nursing home, or any institution that is used principally as a facility for the aged.
Inpatient Care is the care given to a registered bed patient in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical or post acute institution. The care provided in the outpatient department of a hospital, in a clinic or other medical facility, or in a physician's office to persons not admitted to a hospital is considered ambulatory care or outpatient services.
Ancillary Services include such services as x-ray, laboratory tests, and other similar patient services.
Primary Care is medical practice based on direct contact with the patient without referral from another physician. Such practice is undertaken by physicians trained in various ways, including pediatricians, obstetricians, general internists, family physicians, and general practitioners- often referred to as primary care practitioners.
Medical Services arranged for by the physician and provided outside the physician's office other than Hospital Services are called referral services.Tertiary care is service provided by highly specialized physicians and hospitals. These services often require sophisticated technology and facilities.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation ofHealth Care Organizations(JCAHO) • A private, not-for-profit organization that evaluates and accredits hospitals and other health care organizations providing home care, mental health care, ambulatory care, and long term care services.
