What is AIA Illinois’ 150 Great Places program? In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Illinois formally recognizes 150 Great Places of Illinois for their contribution to the quality of life in Illinois and their demonstration of the work of design professionals. What makes “Great Place?” The Great Places list was developed utilizing AIA’s 10 Principles of Livable Communities: design on a human scale compact, pedestrian-friendly communities mixed-use development preserved urban centers vibrant public spaces (only publically accessible places were selected)
