  2. Introduction Sunglasses can break when we carry them without a holster, lay them on the table or accidentally drop them. It is obvious somewhere along the road they will get scratches or break down. Everyone wearing sunglasses faces irritations of scratches on the lenses. Though quality lenses have an anti-scratch coating, but appearance of scratches are inevitable.

  3. Types of Frames • Metal frames: Usually break at the hinges, frame front or the temple. This needs special welding by experts to mold the metal back into shape to fit the lenses into the frame. So, preferred step is to go to an optical shop. • Plastic frames: Break more often than metal ones. The most common breaking points are the bridge, the arms and the temples.

  4. How to Fix Broken Frames? • Super Glue: Clean the surface to apply the glue. Use sandpaper to smoothen surface. Rinse with water and dry with a cloth. Apply the glue on both parts and clamp them. Keep them steady for few minutes on a flat surface to dry out the glue. • Sewing: Tie the two pieces together with rubber bands putting a stick on the top of the frames. Apply glue to the breaking point. Leave them on a flat surface to dry.  Make two small holes with drill, on each part of the broken frame, in a parallel position. Tie the frame together with nylon strings, or thread. Trim the thread and apply super glue. Let it dry.

  5. How to Fix Broken Frames? • Pin and Heat: It is the best for the glasses broken in half. Heat up the plastic frames holding over the hot steam of boiled water (not flame). Now the plastic becomes soft, flexible and compliant. Insert a metal pin on each side. Unite them and push the edges towards one another. Let the plastic become cold and hard.

  6. Removing Scratches Brass or Silver Polish • Apply and gently rub a bit of brass or silver polish on the lenses with a cotton ball. • Remove the excess polish with a clean, lint free cloth. Toothpaste • Massage the paste over the scratch with a cotton ball for about 10 seconds. • Rinse the toothpaste off with cool water. • Wipe of the excess with lint free cloth.

  7. Removing Scratches Baking Soda • Mix water and baking soda (1:2 ratios) to form a thick paste. • Rub the paste into the scratch for 10 seconds, using a cotton ball in a circular motion. • Rinse the paste off with cool water. • Wipe off the excess with lint-free cloth.
