Overview Sunglasses can break if you don’t carry them carefully, put them on the table or accidentally drop them. It is obvious somewhere along the road they will get scratched or break down. Although, quality lenses have an anti-scratch coating, the appearance of scratches is inevitable and it irritates when you wear scratched lenses.
Types of Eyeglass Frames Here we will discuss about repairing the main two types of eyeglass frames. One is metal frame and another is plastic frame. 1. Repairing Metal Frames • Metal frames usually break at the hinges, frame front or the temple • Needs special welding by experts • So, preferred step is to go to an optical shop
2. Repairing Plastic Frames • Plastic frames break more often than metal ones. • The most common breaking points are the bridge, the arms and the temples
Fix by Super Glue • Clean and smoothen the surface by using the sandpaper • Rinse with water and dry with a cloth • Apply the glue on both parts and clamp them • Keep them steady for few minutes on a flat surface to dry out the glue
Fix by Sewing • Joint the two pieces with rubber bands putting a stick on the top of the frames. • Apply glue to the breaking point • Put the both parts in parallel position and make small holes on each piece with the drill. • Tie the frame together with nylon strings, or thread
Scratch Removal Brass or Silver Polish • Apply and gently rub a bit of brass or silver polish on the lenses with a cotton ball • Remove the excess polish with a clean, lint free cloth
With Toothpaste • Massage the paste over the scratch with a cotton ball for about 10 seconds • Rinse the toothpaste off with cool water • Wipe of the excess with lint free cloth
With Baking Soda • Mix water and baking soda (1:2 ratios) to form a thick paste • Rub the paste into the scratch for 10 seconds, using a cotton ball in a circular motion • Rinse the paste off with cool water • Wipe off the excess with lint-free cloth
