  2. God created the Universe out of love because he is love; • The creation is good and God loves and sustains all of it: every photon, every grain of sand, every blade of grass, every form of life that swims, crawls, walks, or flies.

  3. What is meant by good? “Good” may be associated with • goodness • pleasure, • human happiness.

  4. Primeval history • Symbolic accounts: • about things that happened long before • we had any historical written or archeological records.

  5. Figurative language • Symbolic images • Stories • Names • Pointing to deeper truth. • It is not meant to be scientifically or historically accurate.

  6. What does Genesis teach us? • Affirm real events that took place at the beginning of human history; • God created the world with order and purpose; • Creation: work of the three-in-one – Godcreated heavens by his word (Jesus Christ) and his breath (Holy Spirit).

  8. What does Genesis teach us? • Human beings – the crown and steward of creation: - We are called not to dominate but to care for God’s creation – the plant and animal world.

  9. What does Genesis teach us? • God created us to be in communion with each other; • Men and women are intimately connected and equal;

  10. What does Genesis teach us? • The loving relationship between a man and a woman – the first form of communion between persons: – reflecting the communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  11. Creation – seen and unseen • We tend to easier believe in things we can observe through our five senses (vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell); • Unseen creation – the spiritual realm can be as real as unseen. It is the cradle of our soul – the seat of human consciousness and freedom.

  12. Original Holiness • Symbolic way of saying that God shared his life with the first human beings in the garden of Eden.

  13. Anthropomorphically • God is depicted in a human way • Analogy is used – God described as being like a human being with human characteristics; • Why so? – depicting the closeness of God to Adam and Eve • There was a harmony between God, humans and the rest of creation (original justice).
