  3. History First Modern Institution of Higher Education in Korea • Established: 1885 • 1885: Jejungwon was founded • 1915: Chosun Christian College was founded by Dr. H. G. Underwood • 1917: Yonhi College became Korea’s first modern college • 1957: Severance Medical College and Yonhi College merged to become Yonsei University
