Popularity Skateboarding became very popular. Skateboarding shoes came which was just meant for skating. Skating movies came out. Skating movies were just people skating on stairs or ledges or skateparks.
Skateparks During the 1970s skating had a huge jump of popularity skateparks were built made of cement. Magizines and movies came out for skating. Clothes came out for skating also. Some skateparks had to close because of injurys. Insurance was spiraling. Sometimes there was no attendent on duty at skateparks.
History Skateboarding came out in the 1958. It was mostly popular with teenagers. It was known as sidewalk surfing. On August 17th 1993 Thomas Welsh was issued the first steerable skateboard. The ollie is the most basic trick in skateboarding. It is when you jump on a skateboard. The ollie was invented by Allan Ollie Gelfand. In 1973 urethane wheels was invented.
The 1980’s Skaters made their own wooden ramps in their backyards to skate on. Street skating became more popular also. Streetskating is skating on a street doing flip tricks. Skaters started wearing baggy clothes. The ollie has come into its own as the foundation for 80% of street tricks and about 60% of vert tricks, with the focus being on more technical and larger tricks.
`1990’s The X-Games came out in the 1990s and made skateboarding even more popular. The impact of media coverage on skateboarding has moved it from an underground sport to a spectator sport over the last four years. Skateparks have also given boost to the skating community in many towns. The many different ramps, pipes and bowls present at these parks have led to a change in equipment.
