Background Importance of the Research Community Need to explore potential for partnerships. are key to developing ideas, solutions and applications that can directly affect the way the criminal justice system responds to crime through technology It is essential for the Research Community to work with criminal justice system leaders to engage in broad based discussions to understand the needs of the CJS. To propel criminal justice and law enforcement into the 21st Century, there must be greater application of technology to the basic functions of the justice system which requires a greater level of cooperation between all levels of government, private industry and the Research Community. are key to developing ideas, solutions and applications that can directly affect the way the criminal justice system responds to crime through technology It is essential for the Research Community to work with criminal justice system leaders to engage in broad based discussions to understand the needs of the CJS. Vast array of resources supporting integration of criminal justice systems Nation-wide capability to collaborate and reach consensus on solutions to major obstacles facing development of integrated justice system. (OS&T) Find, research, develop, and demonstrate new technologies and new applications to existing technologies to improve policing, corrections and criminal justice in the United States. (RTDD w/ support from TAD/Centers) Introduce promising new technologies to law enforcement and corrections agencies. (RTDD w/ partnership with TAD/Centers) Provide technical and information assistance to law enforcement and corrections agencies at all levels in the area of technology.
