Where it Grows • Native to southern climates • Grows along roadways or other uncultivated open areas • Brought to U.S. from Mediterranean as a contaminant in crop seeds
How its Dangerous • Cyanide is produced in leaves and stems • Inhibits body’s ability to produce oxygen • Young shoots have highest concentration of cyanide • Symptoms- • Rapid breathing • Convulsions • frequent urination and defecation • Death can occur in less than one hour
Treatment • Supportive drug therapy can offset affects of less sever cyanide poisoning
