“I had motives for not wanting the world to have a meaning; consequently assumed that it had not; and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning for this world is not concerned exclusively with the problem of pure metaphysics; he is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to...For myself...the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political. ” • A. Huxley, Means and Ends
Argument from Evil • If God exists, God would be all-powerful • If God exists, God would be all-good • If God is all powerful, God could end evil and needless suffering • If God is all good, God would end evil and needless suffering • Therefore, the presence of evil and needless suffering proves God does not exist
“I don’t like God. Therefore, God does not exist.” “The Old Testament is responsible for more atheism, agnosticism, disbelief – call it what you will – than any book ever written; it has emptied more churches than all the counterattractions of cinemas, motor bicycles and golf courses.” A.A. Milne
