  3. Answers • Define wave in your own words • A transfer of energy through space or matter that does not displace (move) anything.

  4. Answers • Describe the two types of waves. Give an example of each. • Mechanical: Waves that move through matter. Ex: Instrument sound waves. • Electromagnetic: Waves that move through space and/or matter. Ex: The lights in the room.

  5. Answers • Describe three different types of wave motion • Transverse– perpendicular to the direction of the wave. Ex: Slinky going down stairs • Longitudinal– parallel to the direction of the wave. Ex: Snakes slithering across the sand • Combination– both parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the wave. Ex: Ocean Waves

Answers • Define the four parts of a wave • Wavelength: The distance of one trough to trough or peak to peak. • Frequency: The number of wavelength that pass a random position in space every second • Speed: How quickly a wave passes through a specific medium. • Amplitude: The “size” or “volume” of a wave
