  2. Propaganda Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.

  5. Bias • Opinionated View of a subject that can either be positive or negative

  6. Analyzing Bias • Denotation: dictionary definition surrounding a word • Connotation: Emotion surrounding a word

  7. Social Media and Politics: Truthiness and Astroturfing • Find words with positive or negative connotation

  8. Demonstrating Bias • Choose a position either for or against the effects of social media. Write a paragraph expressing your own position of 8-10 sentences using at least 10 words with positive or negative connotation.

  9. Avoiding Bias • Write a paragraph as if you are a newspaper journalist describing an aspect of social media. Remove all words with positive and negative connotation from your paragraph of 8-10 sentences. We will use peer review to be sure that you have achieved absolute objectivity.
