Aims To support healthcare providers across the North West in their quest to drive up productivity through improved access to high quality workforce data, information and intelligence • Share NW workforce data, helping to generate ideas about new/ improved ways of working through data analysis and modelling • Share and learn from good practice and other examples of productivity and quality improvements • Highlight potential problem areas for improvement • Exchange ideas and information through networking
Overview • Developed and co-produced by NHS North West, with NW HRDs, workforce planners and finance colleagues • Reflects and represents what NW organisations have requested • Currently unique to North West
eWIN • Launched 1st June 2010 following trial period, with 11 NW organisations • All NW NHS organisations signing up to AQuA (Advancing Quality Alliance) are automatically members of eWIN • Non-AQUA members pay £2k a year to join eWIN • Members agree to submit two good practice case studies each year • Piloting to take place around extending access to parts of eWIN (not Benchmarking) to non-NHS organisations on request
eWIN Overview • Benchmarking: Online access to a core set of workforce benchmarking metrics, data modelling and diagnostics • Knowledge Exchange: Access to workforce information and documents, good practice case studies, Hot Topics (eg Managing Sickness Absence; Modernising Scientific Careers) • News: Daily updates on issues relevant to the workforce and HR communities • Links to workforce-related sites - 60 sites and rising • Events Calendar:local, regional, national events • Members Forum for discussion of key topics of interest • Monthly Update to all registered users
Benchmarking Service Allows member organisations to: • Access a range of regularly updated key workforce metrics • View their own position and benchmark themselves against others • Calculate/model potential savings made from workforce changes
Knowledge Exchange • Allows member organisations to share good practice • Access to good practice material and case studies from NW NHS organisations, commissioned pieces and summaries of relevant academic research • All organisations are strongly encouraged to submit their own material • Expanding to include material on health/social care issues
How Can eWIN Help? Some questions users might use eWIN to answer: • How do we compare? • Where can we make changes that will make a real difference? • What happens if…..? • How much can we save? • What is the evidence? Who can I speak to? What learning can we adopt locally?

Progress: National Interest Working smart on workforce NHS North West’s eWIN portal is helping 80 per cent of local health service organisations to access important workforce and benchmarking data. Even small improvements in productivity can have significant impact and NHS North West’s Workforce Information and Networking portal eWIN was designed to help organisations plan workforce configurations and improve efficiency, productivity and use of resources……………………………. Progress: Next Steps • Continual review of content in the light of policy developments • Strengthening social care workforce , local authority/public health workforce links and information • Piloting expanded access to non-NHS NW organisations • eWIN User Survey February 2011 • Positioning eWIN to become the north west’s “one-stop shop” for NHS workforce information and resources
