Centennial Vision • "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforcemeeting society's occupational needs."
Inclusion of Mental Health category • Though not explicit in the centennial vision, the centennial celebration in 2017 is a time to celebrate where we have come from, and consider how to advance occupational therapy into the 21st century • The centennial vision encompasses mental health, ie, "meeting society's occupational needs”

Increasing OT’s role in Mental Health Duquense University, Pittsburgh, PA • Created newsletter after experience to promote OT in mental health settings • Explained the role of occupational therapy in mental health, barriers that many war veterans with mental health diagnoses experience, and the project at Shepherd’s Heart • Newsletter was sent to • to local newspapers • Pennsylvania congressmen • President Obama • Local high schools
Increasing OT’s role in Mental Health Duquense University, Pittsburgh, PA • To encourage awareness, the newsletter included and eraser with the statement “Erase Stigmas Associated with Mental Illness”. • The eraser served as a tangible reminder that everyone can play a part in reducing stigmas associated with mental illnesses.
Increasing diversity within the field of OTQuinnipiac University, Hamden, CT • In Nicaragua the occupational therapy students assessed the needs of the people living in challenging conditions. • They were able to build ramps and educate the people of Nicaragua on how to do certain activities while reducing the risk of injury.
Increasing diversity within the field of OTQuinnipiac University, Hamden, CT • Growing through Sewing • program for individuals recovering from addiction or seeking assistance • learn basic quilting techniques while practicing safety, organization, responsibility, respect and care for materials.
Increasing diversity within the field of OTQuinnipiac University, Hamden, CT • Knitting Grandma's of Branford • members of the group had previously fallen while carrying the heavy blankets and also suffer from arthritis • Students educate these women about fall prevention, joint protection and energy conservation

Linking Research, Education, and PracticeIdaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho • The Idaho State University Student Occupational Therapy Association and the Idaho Occupational Therapy Association teamed together • Offered a low-cost, day long, continuing education opportunity to regional occupational therapy practitioners and students • Proceeds from the event went to support both organizations.
