Response to an Executive Order (No. 751)—focus on principles of organization, processes of administration and activity, and fiscal accountability
Many current Centers and Institutes not compliant • Address need to create a coherent campus policy that allows the campus to operate centers and institutes in compliance with the Executive Order, for example in terms of defined lines of reporting and annual accountability.
FPPC recognized that on a campus of our unique size and disciplinary diversity, no one size fits all • Wide range: small centers that focus on themes and events, and large institutes with lab research with external grant activity.
FPPC looked at a number of campus policies from other campuses to look for a best practices model. • The policy looks complex but it lays out steps for formation, review, and accountability. • Once it is enacted, the campus would be compliant and have a clearly defined process.
Could have benefits, for example for development of new centers and to exhibit to external agencies the reporting and accountability infrastructure as a viable and valuable structural aspect campus uses of sponsored research and external funding.
