Objectives: Mponde Tea Factory workers, UTEGA tea farmers and their dependents (170.000 people) have improved access to primary health facilities, testing, care, treatment and health education related to HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB.
PPP with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Objectives: • To enable the NHIF in selected districts of Tanga and Lindi Regions to enroll informal sector workers and their families into the Community Health Fund (CHF) • To improve access to health promotion and prevention services (including HIV/AIDS and screening for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension) for all NHIF members.
Challenges • Sustainability of ABCT (current funding and leadership crisis) • Competition from other donors/service providers (e.g. EngenderHealth/Champion) • Sustainability of WPP in the private sector • Sustainability of funding • Human resources/capacities • Lack of commitment/interest from CEOs • Coordination of private sector activities in Tanzania (TPSFA) The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and HIV/AIDS Component
Next steps • Supporting ABCT in conducting a private sector mapping • Capacity Building/organizational development support for the planned “Tanzania Private Sector Forum on HIV and AIDS” (TAPSFA) • Widening our scope from HIV/AIDS WPP to more comprehensive wellness or health programs (including SRHR, TB, malaria and possibly other non-communicable diseases) • Possibilities of linking WPP and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) => GTZ-SPAA • Focusing more on MARPs through the choice of sectors/industries (e.g. informal sector, tourism, transport sector, construction, hospitality industry) The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and HIV/AIDS Component
